A royal decree was issued in 1969 to establish the first municipal board for the city of Abu Dhabi. This board was tasked with offering the public comprehensive services and making sure the city was properly planned, including regularized road networks, maintenance services, sewerage, lighting works, the Emirate’s Agriculture Development Plan, and the establishment of public markets in various locations.
